£1.5 million Animal Hospital to Open in Bridgend
Shepherds the Vets have officially opened their new £1.5 million state-of-the-art veterinary practice and animal hospital in Bridgend.
With some 70,000 patients and 38 staff including 11 fully qualified vets, the business has a turnover in excess of £2 million with branches in Port Talbot, Porthcawl and Pontyclun.
Advised by Chartered Accountants Graham Paul, the purpose-built unit occupies a one-acre site to the north of Bridgend on Brackla Park and is a registered nurse training centre. The extensive facilities include a fully equipped operating suite, six consulting rooms, two sterile theatres, a dental theatre, on-site laboratories, x-ray and ultrasound facilities, dedicated wards and a conference suite. There are also more than 50 car parking spaces.
Commenting on the investment, Tony John, Managing Director of Shepherds, believes that the prestigious development and achievement of hospital status is a reflection of the hard work and commitment of the entire team:
"We have expanded and adapted our services over the years to continue to deliver leading edge practices with a very personal and caring service."
"Our entire team is rightly very proud of our new animal hospital. The facilities really do enable us to further enhance the levels of veterinary care that we can provide on-site while meeting the strict clinical governance and patient care standards set by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons."
Designed to take advantage of local materials and reflect the local environment, the building includes an impressive atrium finished in welsh slate with reception area and retail space.
Working in conjunction with Natwest Bank, John Squire of Graham Paul Chartered Accountants led the funding with Jehu acting as appointed contractors. The land was acquired by agent Robert Chapman. Ivor Evans and Benjamin Solicitors acted for Shepherds.
"Having worked Shepherds for more than 20 years, we have been proud to support their continuous growth and be part of the team that has helped them to achieve their ambitious objective of developing such a visionary facility here in Bridgend," added John Squire, Director of Graham Paul Chartered Accountants.
"As one of only four animal hospitals in Wales, the centre is a real bonus for Bridgend with some fantastic facilities that are bound to attract animal owners from across South Wales and beyond."
